We would like to acknowledge the support of the many OLPC Volunteers without whom our successful implementation of the XO Laptops, the school servers, the Internet In a Box and networks would not have been possible. Special thanks go to Tony Anderson, Saadia Baloch, Nancie Severs, Adam Holt, and James Cameron for guiding and helping us to keep the laptops in running condition.

Our appreciation is also extended to Rotary Club Metropolitan Karachi for helping us buy replacement XO Laptops for the students in 2016 and once again offering to assist us with essential upkeep of the school this year.

Ruqaiya Bashir is a retired Chemistry Professor who completed her MSc in Chemistry from Aligarh University. She has 35 years of teaching experience in various colleges including PECHS College Karachi. Today she is the person driving both the Science academic curriculum and the extra-curricular activities of the school. She has a passion for education and her dream of making this school into a full-fledged high school for the underprivileged has now materialised.

After finishing her Master’s at University of Sind Pakistan in Organic Chemistry, Talat Qadeer Khan taught Organic Chemistry at PECHS College for women for 13 years.  She moved to the US for a better education for her two boys Nomi and Shabi.  Talat obtained a teaching credential from San Francisco State University in Chemistry and continued teaching in San Francisco untill she retired in 2009.

She has always wanted to use her experience to enrich the lives of children in her native Pakistan. Talat adopted the school in 2007 and got to work! She attended the OLPC Conference in San Francisco in October, 2010, with a strong desire to further support the school’s progress by adding a computer component to the program. OLPC seemed most likely to be the answer because the learning is student oriented and gives the teacher a Coach status.  She initiated the project and today it is a well entrenched program that has become part of the curriculum.

Sabiha has a Masters Degree in Social Work from Karachi University. She has 20 years of teaching experience and has taken on the hands on responsibility for running the school 6 days a week come rain or storm. It is her painstaking care, supervision and daily encouragement that keeps our staff highly motivated. She is the one who makes sure every rupee the school gets goes as far as it can and keeps laborious accounts that would make any auditor proud.

Together Sabiha and Ruqaiya are the individuals who have given Rahnuma Public School a soul as they provide the children of the school with a variety of experiences ranging from tasting new foods to tasting democracy as children run for class room elections.
